Capital One is the only Visa and Master Card issuer that waves foreign transaction fees, even eating the 1% fee it is charged by the payment networks. Other cards charge up to 3% for foreign transactions. There is no annual fee.

My first impression of the Ti Kaye Village in St. Lucia was the friendliness of the staff, they were warm and welcoming. My room was beautiful and clean and the maid service was great.
I enjoyed the peacefulness of the setting and the wonderful view, overlooking the ocean.
I really enjoyed the hammock on the front porch and the outside shower (my first).
The restaurant serves very good food but the dinner menu is somewhat limited and a little pricey.
I went scuba diving with Island Divers, the dive shop at Ti Kaye Village. It is one of the best dive operations I dove with so far. I’ve been diving for 14 years all over the world and this was one of the best. There was much to see on the shore dives as well as on the boat dives. Their attention to personal service and keeping their groups small allows them to give this personal touch to each person. The dive boat is clean, comfortable and very well maintained.
It did rain quite a lot while I was there so I did not get to use the beach, however the beach is clean and well maintained and the couples and families that were there seemed to enjoy it a lot.
I also used the spa services, message and reflexology. That was great! I highly recommend.

Having not experienced a Carnival ship in a number of years, there was a little concern that the reputation of experience on board that had prevailed years ago might still exist.
That impression was totally unfounded and the opportunity to enjoy a cruise on the Glory was most enjoyable. Carnival boasts that they operate “fun “ ships and they really do live up to that image. In fact, if you can’t find something fun to do just about every hour, you had better check your pulse. Kudos to Carnival and their ability to provide entertainment throughout a cruising experience.
The Deepwater Horizon rig exploded in a well blowout on April 20, killing 11 crew members. BP is still trying to stop this gusher over a mile down in the Gulf of Mexico. The NY Daily News reports that BP believes that it has its first success in the clean-up. However, how far will the oil spread? How much of the environment will be permanently damaged or destroyed? How high will food prices go? How will your vacation survive if it’s to the affected coastlines, Florida or Key West? Only time will tell.
I just came back from Las Vegas. I found a hidden gem! It’s a restaurant in the Imperial Palace. It’s called Hash House a Go Go. What a great place to eat! You’ve got to try it. They advertise it as ‘Twisted Farm Food”. Yum!

I am really impressed with the steps (noted in Travel Pulse on April 6, 2010) that Celebrity and Oceania are taking to increase comfort and luxury for passenger clients. Both certainly know to spoil travelers with their attention to comfort and convenience.

Government travel alerts-why the switch for Mexico? Most alerts simply advise against travel to a country as a whole. The new travel warning by the U.S. State Department recently put Mexico on alert for specific border towns instead of the whole country. Could this have something to do with the U.S. government not wanting to rock Mexico’s tourism economy in its fragile condition? Read what the Chicago Tribune had to say on March 22, 2010.
Many colleges are trying to change the Spring Break Beach Parties into an additional learning opportunity. Does the college that your son or daughter attend offer an alternative travel/learning experience? These trips can range from going to different parts of the United States to a different country overseas.
As the U.S. News puts it-‘the alternative break can be the catalyst to make students “active citizens” who are engaged in their own communities and become contributing members to society.’
Do you think that colleges should continue to offer these Alternative Spring Break learning opportunities?
